The Mount Retail Park secures safer parking status

04 Sep 2017

The Mount Retail Park in Kingston-Upon-Hull was awarded Park Mark, the Safer Parking Scheme award for the 7th year running.  Customers to the park can enjoy 560 safer parking spaces and 26 disabled spaces.

AEJ Management were delighted to be awarded the Park Mark, Safer Parking Scheme Award. Simon Devaal, Business Manager AEJ said: "Receiving such a prestigious award was always viewed as a major success by the site-based and mobile management teams. AEJ Management are strong supporters of the Safer Parking Scheme and pride themselves on maintaining the standards required to gain this accreditation."

A Park Mark is awarded to parking facilities that pass a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association.  The assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, ensuring that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness.  These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.

Marc Dias, Crime Reduction Officer at Humberside Police said: “For customers, using a Park Mark, Safer Parking facility means that the area has been vetted by the police and has measures in place to create a safe environment.

“The Mount is really impressive, in that the operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking facility.”

Phil Taylor, British Parking Association Area Manager, said: “I am delighted that AEJ continues to raise car park standards. It is a great testament to staff at AEJ to have achieved the Park Mark Award every year over the past 7 years.

“The hard work of the management and security staff to meet the requirements means that they have a really popular shopping park with customers returning for a great and safe shopping experience.”

Car parks with the Park Mark award can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark tick, so that drivers know exactly where to go for safer parking.  Early adopters of the scheme saw a dramatic drop in vehicle-related crime of over 80% showing that the initiative really does make a difference.

Personal safety and location have been cited as joint priorities when choosing where to park.  There are currently 5000 car parks with the Park Mark award throughout the UK which can be found on a designated website www.parkmark.co.uk
